Lesson 20 - Abraham: His Move and Mission

The word covenant literally means promise.

The 6 elements of the promise God made to Abram.

1. Make you a great nation.
2. Bless you.
3. Make your name great.
4. Bless those who bless you.
5. Curse those who curse you.
6. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you.

Q. After traveling through the land, what did Abram build when he called on the  name of the LORD?
A. An altar

It's interesting how after the flood, there were lots of people who came together to build a huge tower towards heaven to make a name for themselves, but only one man named Abram built a small altar to call upon the name of the Lord.  Which did God honor? Look at the formula below:

MANY men + building BIG tower + making NAME for THEMSELVES = Self-centered worship

ONE man + building SMALL altar + called on the NAME of the LORD = Christ-centered worship

God honored the one man who built the small altar to call on the name of the Lord instead of the many men who built a huge tower to make a name for themselves. Bigger is not always better.
