Abram means "exalted father"
Abraham means "father of many nations"

Q. What did God compare Abram's offspring to and why?
A. Stars to convey the idea that Abram's descendants would be too many to count.

Hagar and Ishmael
After God promised Abram would have many descendants, Sarah decided to take matters into her own hands by offering her Egyptian maidservant, Hagar, to sleep with Abram.

Though Sarai was his wife, Abram did not resist sleeping with his wife's maidservant Hagar, who gave birth to a son named, Ishmael.

Q. What lesson of redeeming love do we find in the story of Hagar?
A. After running away from her mistress Sarai, the angel of the LORD appeared to her near a spring in the desert telling her to return back.  The angel also promised to increase her descendants that they also will be too numbers to count.

When we run away from God because of our sins, when we feel alone, rejected, broken and mistreated, God will go the distance to bring us back to Him.

The Covenant
Abram was ninety-nine (99) years old when the LORD confirmed the covenant and that He would greatly increase His descendants.

Circumcision would be the sign of the covenant between God and man.

Q. What did Sarah do when she heard that she would have a son?
A. She laughed.
